A Brief History of Rossington
Like Hatfield and Edlington, the Doncaster parish of Rossington is also famous for being one of the very few places in Yorkshire where the archaeological evidence of Palaeolithic human settlements has been discovered.
Located between Bawtry and Tickhill, Rossington has a population of just over 14,000 individuals. The River Torne separates this community from the nearby town of Loversall. Rossington originally received this name, which means the “Farm on the Moor,” probably because it was a farmland surrounded by uncultivated upland.
